Decoy more geese - Videos
The most common question I am asked on our waterfowl hunting survey is "How do I get the geese to commit to my decoy spread more often".
Before I get into the answer I would like to thank everyone who has taken the survey about your biggest waterfowl hunting challenges. We take your feedback seriously and try to follow up on as many as we can.
On that note if you have not taken our survey or would like to take it again simply follow the link below:

There are many reasons why geese do not commit. But the top two reasons are concealment and not calling properly. Each can be easily fixed but let's first figure out which one is hurting you.
Do you have a calling issue?
If the geese are getting within 100 yards and simply sliding off, most likely it is your calling that is not holding their attention. Holding the attention of geese is as simple as finding a note that the geese like, and just using that note until it no longer works.
Once it no longer works, start using different notes on the passing geese until you get a positive reaction. Once you have them coming your way, keep using that note until they finish.
Watch the video in the link below. It was a promo video for our goose calls.

Now watch it again but this time focus on the calling technique. I am not calling with a bunch of different notes, instead I find something that works, and I use it until the birds finish. It may be a cluck and moan, spit note, or a comeback call but I use it until I pull the trigger or the geese no longer respond to it.
Do you have a concealment issue?
If the geese are getting within 100 yards and then flaring, most likely it is your concealment. Geese will often slide away from poor calling, but rarely flare. Flaring geese simply means you need to hide better. Go watch this video to see how concealed we get when hunting in the field. If you do the same, your flaring problem will be gone.
